Memories start to fade when I don't note things down.
The Journey To & In Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
Accepting the course
Way back in the beginning of Year 2011, I knew that I would be graduating from Ngee Ann Polytechnic soon. I had no thoughts of applying university for I was tired of studying and eager to start working and get the income rolling and also, I had no interest, no plans, no slightest idea of which path I should take in near future. Therefore, I planned to work for a year or two before studying uni, gain experience and exposure before deciding which degree to go for.
Despite experiencing working life during the term breaks, I am aware that the working life is seriously tiring, everything was real, mistakes are unbearable. On the contrast, in school, if you did not do well in a quiz or exam, it will just simply affect your grades, no one will scold you for the mistakes or misunderstandings (except your parents?)you made or had. This doesn't seem right as school is the building block that prepare you to venture out there in the future, if nothing is done to correct these mistakes, the mistake remains, it seems alright throughout school life, but you will realize and regret once you start working.
Well, things are easier said than done. It is really hard to remain disciplined and correct every single mistake or unknown till perfection, so I guess I will just try my best and at least improve from these mistakes or situations and feel less regretful whenever I look back.
SO, I started to gather advice from family and friends. My mum was in flavor of what I had in mind as she felt that it is good for me to tryout and see which field I am interested to work in and I would study harder when I am paying for my own tuition fees and suggests that it would be better if I go for part-time studies. Full time schooling itself tires me out badly for I am a slow learner and a computer game addict with discipline close to zero, so I guess the part-time option is out. My brother and course mates feel that it is no doubt better to continuing studying as taking a break in between for a year or two or even three might make me lose the passion and feeling to study and also, by the time I graduate I would probably lose out to fresh graduates of a younger batch.
After much consideration and support from my course mates, I ended up applying a few courses which enables direct entry to the second year of the course which implies that I am prepared to further study into my current (Engingeering Informatics) course. Together with Chor Hoong and Xin Yu, we stated Information Engineering and Media (IEM) as our first choice. Why this course? The Information and Engineering part is related to the current poly course, perhaps is the arts and media part that is new and arouses my interest. Since young, I attended art classes out of school and am aware that I have no talent in the Arts field, not good in copying a picture, a dance step or anything that needs a little imagination, creativity or agility, simply.. bad at everything.. *Sigh*..What I usually do is to stare in awe to those cool and artistic work pieces produced by someone else, watching dope dance steps performed by others both online and offline. However, the stubborn me still wants to give it a try. Yeap.. So got offered.. accepted and no turning back.
Travelling
Ok.. down to business.. seriously.. I know that NTU is far from Bishan, I thought that it is just a little further compared to Ngee Ann. HOLY MOLY, yeap, a LITTLE further which takes about hmmm..45 mins more? The very first time I went to NTU was by car, where Jin Han gave me a ride to take a look at Shi Hao's hostel (Hall 13) so to know how a hostel looks like.
When the car first turned into NTU, my eyes went wide open and my jaw dropped.. Ngee Ann was big, but NTU was BIGGER, the car went in circles even though we followed the directions of the signboard, we kept going in and coming out, to and from the same place. After wandering around for 15 mins or longer, we managed to reach the car park of hall 13. The room is spacious and nice, so is the pantry and washroom, from then, I decided to apply for hostel. After asking around, I applied for hostel(double room) together with Fiona and coincidentally we were assigned (by computer system) to hall 13 out of the 16 halls. I felt really happy and lucky about it.
Ok.. I am going to knock off soon, shall continue next time.
This is how all things worked...
